Just like Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, at one point in his teenaged years Gibbons saved his family from starving by providing food from the wild. Reading it made me eager to try candied acorns. I love oak trees and particularly enjoyed the chapter on acorns. ![]() This is a reference book broken into chapters on different wild plants. The whole group enjoyed reading it and we had a great discussion. For example, I learned that the Pecan tree is a member of the hickory family! The author has a familiar, jovial narrative style that was very inviting. I found it easy to read and full of interesting tidbits. I didn't expect to enjoy this book very much, but I was wrong. This book was published in 1962 and is rightfully considered a bible of the environmental movement and a primer for anyone interested in healthy, inexpensive eating. We discussed Stalking the Wild Asparagus this month. I run a book group that meets at a local and sustainable foods restaurant. ![]() ![]() Then the world of New Orleans in the 1960s emerges - a world in cultural, social and political flux on Riccardo Hernandez’ minimalist screen-centric set, with atmospheric touches provided by Sven Ortel’s projections. Cast members then slide him into the fat suit, adding items of clothing to create Ignatius’ iconic look: giant tweed pants, unlaced boots, plaid flannel shirt, suspenders, muffler, and Ignatius’ signature hunter’s cap with the flaps down. Indeed, the play begins with a bare stage, as Offerman simply appears as himself, wearing nothing but a big bushy moustache and his underwear. ![]() ![]() But more work still needs to be done to keep new audiences beguiled by the adventures of this proud and mammoth misfit, trapped by the extravagance of his own imagination.ĭirector David Esbjornson keeps the traffic of the show’s many characters and plot lines as smooth as possible with a stripped-down, self-aware and transformational approach. Playwright Jeffrey Hatcher has already done an impressive job of editing and shaping the story for the stage, retaining its essence as well as some of its dandiest dialogue. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fina could have made tactical moves that would have sped up the case, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s reporting on this matter. The investigation by the federal prosecutor determined there were “inexplicable delays,” and Mr. Kane used this issue in her campaign platform by promising to investigate the way this case was handled. Tom Corbett, and then the person mentioned in the indictment, Frank Fina, who just happened to be the lead investigator in the Jerry Sandusky investigation during Corbett’s tenure as attorney general. Nothing like throwing caution to the wind and hanging yourself out to dry. With the enemy list she has accrued since she took office, no wonder she finds herself in this debacle. It highlights the often-overlooked roles of the artificer and those other craftsmen who contributed so valuably to the day's entertainment. This book focuses on the social, cultural and economic contexts, in which the Shows were designed, presented and experienced, and explores the Shows in textual, historical, bibliographical, and archival and other contexts. Pageantry was a feature of the day's entertainment. The London mayoralty was not simply an entity of civic power, but always had its ritual and ceremonial dimensions. At times, I almost felt like reading two different books: the first half dragged and was boggled down with confusing information about the range of shadows and the alterations one can make as well as the backstory of Vince, Charlie, and Posey but by the time the second half arrived, I was so hooked I couldn’t put Charlie’s story down as it all unravelled magnificently with plot twists that left me shook. This era before the Great War starting in 1914 was characterized by euphoric ‘futurism’ based on groundbreaking innovations like ‘long distance messaging’, ‘penny post’, ‘animated films’, Ford’s assembly line, ‘Olivetti typewriter’, ‘feature film’, ‘large ships’ and ‘air transportation’ – the ingredients of the short story as I argue. I built the argument by original quotes from Forster and by portraying the years 1906–9, when Forster developed the short story. I argue instead, that the main theme of the short story is – in Forster’s own words – the closing of a civilization in times of transition and facing major challenges. Also management literature reviewed the short story with regard to centralized decision making, rationality and totalitarianism. EM Forster’s short story “The Machine Stops” from 1909 is widely reread and discussed again for some ten years as it portrays a science-fiction world resting on similar technological advancements as today in the digital era. ![]() ![]() ![]() (00:32:40 - 00:33:40) - “Transitions: A Director’s Journey and Motivational Handbook” Promo (00:27:35 - 00:32:40) - Shadowing and Landing First Gig As A Director (00:22:00 - 00:27:35) - Working With An Acting Coach The early transition from college to the NFL is going smoothly for Seattle Seahawks running back Kenny McIntosh. bad notes to give an actor, the importance of prepping and how it is your protection, adjusting to the new “Evercast” protocol in post-production, having chutzpah, and more… In this episode, Shiri and Pete discuss the performance of the Director, good vs. ![]() An actress and director born in Calabasas, California, Shiri is best known for her breakout roles in “Roswell” and “Life Unexpected”, and her directorial work on “Grown-ish” and “UnPrisoned”. ![]() Shiri Appleby began her acting journey at age 5, working on the set of numerous television shows and commercials. ![]() |
